SPA and ABRAMUS propose creation of lusophone confederation of societies of authors and lusophony manifesto

SPA’s President, José Jorge Letria, and the leader of Abramus (Brazil), Roberto de Mello, had a work meeting in Lisbon in which they made a detailed analysis of the copyright situation in Europe and the Americas, as well as of the actions carried out by CISAC (headquartered in Paris) and GESAC (headquartered in Brussels), showing some concern for aspects that should be corrected within the next few months. The fact that SPA’s President is chairing CISAC’s European Committee and that Roberto de Mello is the Assistant Director of the CISAC Latin American and Caribbean Committee favored this debate.

The idea of creating a Lusophone Confederation of Societies of Authors shortly was born during the meeting. This project will be introduced to the remaining Portuguese-speaking societies very soon, and it will be officially presented at CISAC’s Annual General Meeting in Warsaw next June. Another idea was to draw up a manifesto on the evolution of the lusophone project, which involves all the societies of Portuguese-speaking countries and also Macao, where there will be one month dedicated to lusophony, which will be followed closely by SPA and with specific cooperation projects.

Both leaders highlighted the significance and strategic importance of this project, which strengthens lusophony within CISAC and worldwide. It should also have the support and appreciation of WIPO, with which SPA has been regularly collaborating and discussing ideas because there are many convergence points.
