President of SGAE and SPA analysed common actions and strategies for the future

The president of the Spanish authors’ society SGAE went to Lisbon to discuss with the president of SPA, on Wednesday, February 8th, aspects related to the activity of the two societies and their visions and the actions they can take to strengthen the societies of authors in southern Europe.

Composer and producer of prestige, José Miguel Sastrón has the responsibility, after having been vice-president of the Direction for years, to deepen the work of financial and organic recovery of that which is one of the largest societies of authors of Europe and one of the most important Worldwide. In addition, he represents SGAE on the Board of Directors of CISAC, for which he was elected in Paris in 2016.

In the meeting held with SPA President José Jorge Letria and with SPA Director General , Paula Cunha, the interest of the two societies of authors in ARMONIA was discussed as well as future actions that can enhance the important audiovisual sector in both countries. These matters will again be scheduled for the next meeting of the two presidents.

José Jorge Letria informed his Spanish counterpart about the stages of development of the Portuguese-speaking cooperation project and also on the preparation of the general meeting of the CISAC European Committee in Moscow, under his presidency, in April.

Both presidents committed themselves to regular meetings of the two societies and the implementation of joint actions in Lisbon and Madrid. The next working meeting, with a detailed common agenda, will take place in Madrid at the end of next April. The two Presidents undertook to examine jointly and frequently aspects of their joint actions, taking into account the seriousness of the European and world economic and political situation, in particular after Brexit and the election of Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States which will soon have visible results also in the panorama of copyright. The two Presidents also spoke about the European Commission’s action in this sector and the need for the two countries to have at this level an insistent and structured common action.
